Malerweg and Saxon Switzerland: What? https://seatothelandbeyond.wordpress.com/2024/04/20/malerweg-and-sachsische-schweiz-what/

Stage 1: Bad Schandau – Kurort Rathen https://seatothelandbeyond.wordpress.com/2024/04/27/stage-1-bad-schandau-kurort-rathen/

On this first hiking day, we leave Bad Schandau with a climb to go through meadows to some villages. After a few kilometres, we follow a forest path and take 800 steps to the top of Brand. After that, the rocks and forests start to become more impressive. After a break in Hohnstein, it goes through a fairytale forest to a panorama on Hockstein. Then it’s via the recreational Amselsee to Kurort Rathen, where we climb to the panoramic Kleine Bastei.

Stage 2: Rathen – Königstein https://seatothelandbeyond.wordpress.com/2024/05/03/stage-2-kurort-rathen-konigstein/

On the second day, one of the icons of Saxon Switzerland is on the menu, the impressive Bastei Bridge with an amazing panorama. This can be coupled with a visit to the Neurathen castle ruins. It then goes via a forest path to a stretch with impressive rock formations. Another highlight is the passage over the table mountain Rauenstein. It then descends to a field road to climb again via a forest path to the impressive Königstein fortress.

Stage 3: Königstein – Kurort Gohrisch https://seatothelandbeyond.wordpress.com/2024/06/22/stage-3-konigstein-kurort-gohrisch/

On the third, shorter hiking day, it initially goes up and down to the centre of Königstein. From there it is immediately a brisk climb to follow a forest path for a long time. With the increase in rock formations also comes a new icon of the Malerweg, the rock needle Barbarine. From there, it goes to the Pfaffenstein plateau, with lots of beautiful panoramas. The descent is via steep steps and an occasional ladder. Once past the village of Pfaffendorf, it is a short descent to the spa town of Gohrisch.
